The cutoff leaving Ken Griffey, Jr. out is unfortunate. He would have to top the list if eligible. I’d say Mike Trout belongs top 5 ahead of Ohtani at least until he gets a few more years in.
MLB Pipeline had him preseason #1 in 2011. It all depends on the source and there are many now. Truthfully, I wasn’t sure until I looked it up. Harper was 1 on other lists. That is stiff competition.
Before the Yankees signed a Panamanian high school player named Mariano Rivera, a scout from another team wrote a report recommending no contract because the kid could only throw one pitch.
I know there are a lot of Jeter haters out there, but as someone who wasn't in the weeds on minor league prospects, I knew who Jeter was before he came to the majors and he completely surpassed the hype - bringing the championship attitude and dynasty back to the Yankees who hadn't won a title in 18 years (an eternity in the Bronx).
Please....
Ken Griffey Jr. beats them all...

Agree on both. I left Trout out because, weirdly, he was never the #1 baseball prospect.

Which, had I clicked the link you provided, I would’ve saw that Trout wasn’t listed.

I have to say Willie Mays … Oh I thought you said 1950 and later … my bad. I forgot you were a young ‘un.
I'm a disaffected Montreal Expos fan, so I would always say Gary Carter.

The cutoff aside, my choice is Carlton Fisk. Check him out!
