“The Replay” is — and always will be — a passion project.
Steve and I love sports. We love talking about what’s happening today in the sports world through the lens of history. We love talking to smart people about their sports memories — and sharing our own.
But, we also want to make sure that we aren’t just doing this for ourselves. We want to build a product that finds an ever-growing audience — even if that growth is slow but steady.
We have not done that to date. While we are nearing 1,000 subscribers to “The Replay,” we have seen our new subscriber numbers flat-line over the last few months.
Given that reality, continuing to do the same thing would be nonsensical. A change is needed.
In order to give us the time and space to think through what that change should be, we are hitting “pause” on “The Replay” for a little while.
What that means, practically speaking, is that we won’t be publishing any content for the near future. It also means that if you are a paying subscriber — and we thank each and every one of you who are choosing to invest in us — your subscription will be paused. Meaning, you won’t be paying for content you aren’t getting.
This is not the end. We WILL come back with a revamped version of “The Replay” in the not-too-distant future. We are already kicking around some ideas but obviously would welcome any and all thoughts from you too! You can either put them in the comments section or email me directly at cillizzac@gmail.com.
Thanks, in advance, for sticking with us. We always knew launching a stand-alone sports newsletter would be challenging and that we would need to be flexible to make it work.
This is us stretching.
Very sorry to hear this, Chris. I’ve really enjoyed your analysis, particularly your blow-by-blow comments on Trump and Biden interviews, etc. Hope to see you again soon!
Come back soon Chris; your sports focus is the one area that I agree with you! 😉
